The 1881 movement was born when a group of Watford fans came together during the summer of 2013 with the aim of improving the vocal support at Vicarage Road. In recent years, Watford fans had a reputation for being quiet and after the crushing experience at Wembley that year; it was time for a change. Initiatives led by both fans and the club have been tried in the past but to little effect, so initially the idea was met with some scepticism from the wider Watford faithful. The 1881’s first outing was the opening league game of the 2013/14 Championship season, when Watford put six past AFC Bournemouth at home, since then the movement has experienced highs and low. Slowly but surely, Watford fans from all over have been buying into the idea that Vicarage Road can be a noisy, colourful and passionate stadium. Not only has The 1881 made a huge contribution to the match day experience at Vicarage Road, but the movement now has a number of extra ventures including selling merchandise, putting on affordable coaches for away games, and attending the Ladies’ matches in an attempt to support all things Watford. In the future we intend to ramp up our efforts and really take it to another level, putting on displays for the world to see and to help the team across the line. If you like the sound of what we do and would like to support us, there are many ways in which you can do so. Donating and buying from our Store (links at the top) help financially. We are also always looking for volunteers to help set up before kick-off on a match day. If you want to go one step further and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with us at The Vic, then enquire with the club about changing your season ticket location (You ideally want as close to row VV seat 1 as you possibly can).
